FAQ

How can I get scholarships?

Scholarships are grants that can be used to pay college costs. There are many kinds of scholarships. These include:

  • Federal Grants
  • State Grants
  • Student Loans
  • Work Study Programs
  • Financial Aid

Federal grants come directly to the U.S. Federal grants generally require that applicants meet certain criteria. You will need to prove financial need.

State grants can be offered by the individual states. State grants can be offered by each state based upon financial need, while others are given for specific purposes.

Student loans are issued by banks and other lending institutions. Students often borrow money to pay for tuition and living expenses.

Employers can use work-study programmes to attract qualified students. Employers must pay at least the minimum wage to their employees.

Financial aid covers the majority or all of the tuition costs for low-income families.

What is the difference between a college and a university

A university provides higher education. It offers courses in various areas, both undergraduate and postgraduate.

A college is typically smaller and less well-known than a university. While it may offer fewer programs, many colleges have their own specialist departments.

What is the difference between college or school?

Schools are usually organized into classes (or grades) with a teacher who teaches a group of students. Colleges are larger organizations that offer more specialized programs and often include university-level courses. Schools usually focus on basic subjects while colleges may offer a variety of subjects including arts, science, languages, business, etc. Both levels have a curriculum that prepares students for higher education.

Who can homeschool?

Anyone can homeschool. There are no requirements for specific qualifications.

High school graduates can still teach their children. Many parents opt to teach their older children at college.

Parents who have less formal education may be able to teach their children.

After meeting certain requirements, parents may become certified teachers. These requirements may vary by state.

Some states require homeschooled students take a test to graduate. Others do not.

Parents who wish to homeschool must register their family with the local school district.

This process involves filling out paperwork and submitting it to the school board.

After registering, parents may enroll their children into public or private schools.

Some states permit parents to homeschool their children without having them registered with the government.

If you live within one of these states, it is your responsibility to ensure that your children fulfill the state's mandatory attendance law.

How long should I spend preparing for college?

The amount of time you dedicate to your studies will affect how much time you spend preparing for college. Start taking college preparation courses as soon as you finish high school if you want to be able to go straight to college. If you are planning to leave school for a while before you can attend college, it is probably not necessary to start planning.

You should discuss your plans with your parents and teachers. They may suggest certain courses of study. Track the grades and courses you've taken. This will allow you to know exactly what you need for next year.
